What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers can be made from a synthetic resin, but they’re typically made out of porcelain, since it matches existing teeth much more naturally in both color and shape, and it is more stain resistant. Veneers are applied in several steps that occur during two separate visits to the dentist. At the first visit, the teeth that will be receiving veneers are buffed and shaped. This process may or may not require anesthesia. Next, a mold is taken to match the newly-shaped and buffed teeth. At a second visit, dental cement is added and the custom-made porcelain veneer is applied to the tooth. A special light beam is used to harden the cement and quickly cause the veneer to adhere to your teeth.
While veneers are not a permanent solution, they are long-lasting. And just as you care for your natural teeth, dental veneers also require daily care. As part of your teeth they’ll need brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. If you’d like to discuss the possibility of giving yourself a dental makeover, feel free to give us a call. Our dentists, Dr. Paul Hicks or Dr. Scott Hicks will be glad to sit down with you, take a look at your teeth—and together with you, determine whether your teeth meet the qualifications for using dental veneers.
