03 Nov Give the Gift of Warmth: 2023 Coat and Blanket Drive
Is your closet getting too stuffed? Are the kids outgrowing all their winter gear? Do you have some cozy blankets that just don’t fit your vibe any longer? Then it might be time to think about purging some of your gently used jackets and winter gear just in time for Hicks Dental Group’s second annual coat drive!
Why Donate?
It is getting chilly and cold out there, and with winter upon us it might feel good to crank that heat and settle in with a nice cup of cocoa. However, nearly 40 million Americans are unable to do that. Either they live at or below the poverty line, or they are part of the nearly half a million people who are unsheltered (homeless).
If you are struggling to put food on the table or are living on the street, buying warm winter wear is not always an option. But just like excessive heat, cold can also cause a plethora of health problems. Exposure can cause frostbite, hypothermia, and death. Coat drives help give warm articles of clothing to people who need them, for free.
Who Benefits from the Donations?
This year we are donating winter clothing items to Prescott Area Shelter Services (PASS) and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
PASS is a local, nonprofit women’s shelter. They provide temporary emergency housing for veterans and women. Those who stay with PASS are able to receive case management services and resources to help them find and keep permanent housing.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a nonprofit that serves the local community in several ways. They provide meals for people experiencing homelessness and operate food banks and homelessness prevention programs.
What Can You Donate?
Our coat drive accepts clean and gently used winter items for adults, teens, children, and infants. Here’s what we’re collecting:
- Jackets and Coats
- Snow Pants
- Blankets
- Scarves
- Hats
- Mittens
Leave Donations at Our Office Until December 1st!
If you would like to donate, first off, thank you! Providing warmth this winter can actually save lives. Our community and the people in it are important to us, and this is one way we hope to improve our town. We will be collecting donations until the 1st of December, all donations can be left at our office.
